Harris Resort Batam

Just back from my 3D2N 23-25 Aug 2009, {all inclusive @ Harris new trendy wing} booked from 5star. I give this place a rating of 4 out of 5, as for the remaining 1 will be explained below.

Day 1

Board the 0920H ferry and reach about 1030H including 30 mins waiting for Star Virgo to go along side HarbourFront plus 15 min to alight passenger at Sekupang. When we embark, all was swift and fast. We were welcome by a clown holding a “Welcome to Harris” board and was shown to the Harris immigration counter. Where we show them the booking voucher and passport, given back a tag and booking voucher but passport withheld for clearance ( was told that can be claim back from the reception counter). Directed up the harris bus and a 5 min ride to the resort.

Upon reaching, we were welcome by cold towel and fresh juice. My wife use the voucher to check in but was told to wait another hour for the room to be ready and was given 2 waist band (available only for all inclusive guest, the type use by patients in hospital). We were told to put on the band at all time and directed to d’Bar for tea break while waiting.

After 45mins, we finally got the room key and took the lift at the new wing to level 3. What caught our attention when the lift door open was a thin crack line on the wall and this visible line can also be seen in my room as it was just opposite the lift. Settle down and realise that there was no bathtub, just a shower head which disappoint my wife who thought that she can have a sea salt bath. At the room bar, the fridge was empty and on top was 2 pack of tea/coffee each, some sugar/creamer, a small water boiler and 2 bottle of drinking water. Basically the room is clean except for yellowish patch stain on the bath towel and curtain, the rest is all fine.

Since tea break, it has been showering thus we just laze in the room and went for lunch at 1300H. After which we went to amend our spa booking to monday since no water sports, then we went to the reception 1410H to book our return ferry and to take back our passport with the tag given at immigration. At the recep, we check about shopping at Nagoya and was told that we can take their shuttle(FOC) at 1500H and return at 1830H but will cost S$15 if take taxi per trip meaning save S$30 for throu and fro, this service is only available for guest and you need to provide your room number to book seating slots.

Off we went for the 30 mins bumping ride to Nagoya. What was worth shopping was there :

1- Hypermart at the basement where you can get a wide range of local products at super low price like

  • Yakult (pack of 5)at 7.000, app S$1.02
  • Nescafe 3in1 Mochaccino (pack of 5) at 7.700, app S$1.13
  • Laurer Pantyliner ( pack of 40) at 9.275 app S$1.36
  • Biore Men Deep Clean (100g) at 13.510 app S$1.99
  • Head and Shoulder (180ml) at 16.325 app S$2.40

2 - Jl. Teuku Umar ( something like John Little)

  • Jepit Black leather slipper at 39.000 app S$5.74

3 - KFC/A&W for their Sundae at 5.500 app S$0.80

4 - Saloon where i got a hair cut + wash(twice) + dry at 42.000 app S$6.20

If you are looking for bags or wallets, remember to compare with at least 6 shops as their price range can differ from 20.000 to 60.000

Later went back, took our dinner at Harris cafe and end the day with an early rest as my wife was tired after 3hour of shopping.

Day 2

A brand new day awaiting, headed for breakfast and on return found out that we were lock out of our room the door kept showing red light even the master card also cannot open plus it was showering again. Not sure if “Heng” or “Sway”, luckily i had book for spa treatment thus we told the staff to sort it out while we go for spa. Basically the massage was great as it really release the tension of the bones and make you feel so great that we actually fell asleep. The spa consist of 3 sections : indoor massage, outdoor and seperated male/female sauna and cold/hot plunge located on the 3rd floor of the recreational building.

2 hours later the door still not fix and the housekeeping had to  comms the recep to send the technician. 2 soft plus 2 hard reset, still no use then one of them got a new equipment and that’s it within 2 mins the door is open. I would want to let guest on 24 august 2009 around 1400H to know that the two short circuit or simply no elecricity was to do hard reset for my door.

Since it was still showering, after lunch, we decided to go shopping again. At Nagoya, i witness an accident: a 3-4 yrs old girl was playing on the escalator in Umar walking up and down and with a slip of unbalance, she slip down facing up 4-5 steps with minor bruise. With the mum scream and the girl cries, it created a commotion and 2-3 Umar staff step in to help with the rest of the patrons eyes stick on the escalator. luckily she slip in the middle or else if a bit more to the left, her fingers might have been snap off. After 3h of window shopping, we got back and found that housekeeping was done: this time round 100% clean towel, toiletries replenished, bed made and room clean again.

Before dinner, we decided to try out the sauna and plunge which we miss during the day. The sauna was not bad as at 110 deg C, I was actually drenched from head to toe within 15 mins but my wife only manage to squeeze out 3-5 drops of sweat. BUT the cold plunge was quite dissappointing as there was alot of flies in the water and it look cloudy (meaning the previous guy did not bother to shower off his massage oil) and from my wife the female one was okay but the motor not working. Both side hot plunge was not fill with water thus did not bother to ask them operate as we were the only one there. As for the locker, 1/2 was malfunctioning and one of the shower head actually drop off (luckily not the one i was  using).

After which the surprise was at dinner time as there were left 2-3couple for the all inclusive, they decided not to cook buffet and let us order from the menu: 1 soup + 1 main course + 1 desert each . Ordered rib eye steak and mixed fruits.

After that rest for the day.

Day 3

Finally a sunny day, my wife got up early and want to drag me out for a swim but i just laze and told her to go herself. So she went downstairs herself, you know what happen, this time round there was totally no light on the card reader, the door is dead, it is as if i know something will happen like that. Guess what will be the outcome if both of us has gone out for the morning swim, they might just has to “fell the door” just like what was written behind the door as we had to catch the 1510H ferry back to Singapore.

After 45mins and my wife back from breakfast was the door battery change and functioning again. Since it was damm hot outside, we watch tv in the room and went for our last lunch at 1300H and sat at d’bar til 1430H before we depart to the ferry terminal. All was smooth and the ferry depart at 1500H, reach sekupang at 1520H for passenger to board and left at 1545H, reach SG at 1626H.

Remarks

Exchange rate at 6.800 to S$1 from Jurong Point. Time use above is in SG.

I am not the fuzzy type thus only write what i saw and not complaining. Basically this trip was pleasant as for all inclusive, all meals and drinks included thus don’t have to worry about hunger. The resort uses SG for purchases which i find it a bit steep except for the massage at S$15/hr/pax (promotion). If you cannot accept the toiletries provided by the resort, it is better to go buy at Nagoya then at the convenience store within the resort.

From what i see this resort was better than my last trip to Nongsa which has better facilities and more activities for the kids. Thus might just plan to bring my two boys along in the near future.
